Driver killed in fiery Barrington Hills crash was from Carpentersville, authorities say
The driver killed last week in a fiery crash in Barrington Hills has been identified as a Carpentersville man, authorities announced Wednesday.
Josue Campuzano-Cuin, 30, died from fire-related injuries in the Feb. 28 crash, the Lake County coroner’s office said.
A tattoo of a heart on Campuzano-Cuin’s chest that was visible using ultraviolet photography and a surgical scar above his right ear helped identify him, Chief Deputy Coroner Stephen Newton said.
The head-on collision occurred on County Line Road at Bellwood Drive. Campuzano-Cuin’s Ford F-150 pickup truck was headed east and struck a Hyundai Palisade headed west, police said.
The pickup truck caught fire and the blaze spread to the passenger area. Campuzano-Cuin was pronounced dead on the scene.
A 46-year-old Algonquin woman driving the Hyundai was seriously injured but survived, police said.
Barrington Hills police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team are investigating.
