It’s inappropriate for town to call for cease-fire

I was unaware of the meeting that occurred proposing Naperville calling for a cease-fire in Gaza.

I am deeply concerned about the message this sends to our community members. While I am aware that the civilian casualty numbers and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is real, Israel was not the aggressor.

This is outside your own Mission statement “To provide services that ensure a high quality of life, sound fiscal management and a dynamic business environment, while creating an inclusive community that values diversity.”

This would mean the council would also need to propose a call for the release of hostages and the security of Israel as a sovereign State. This is a slippery slope for our city council.

A resident of Naperville could then ask, why after over 120,000 deaths in Ukraine, Naperville has not issued such a statement? Ukraine did not attack, Russia, brutally, murder, rape, physically and mentally torture anyone. The attack on Ukraine was unprovoked. Neither did Ukraine threaten to annihilate Russia.

Moreover, never in the course of history has Naperville issued such a statement. The pressure from a minority of people in the town should not sway the rational decisions of the city council. Nor should it ignore another minority's real concurrent pain.

This is not a local but national issue.

My daughter lives in Israel. She has lost two friends. She has had one friend who was shot at the music festival and one of her friends' cousins is a hostage.

She lives in a building with Arabs and Palestinians. Within Israel Muslims, who are citizens there, know that this is the work of a terrorist group, which it seems the world has forgotten.

I am adamantly opposed to a resolution in the name of my town.
