Get pruning tips from former Extension educator at Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners meeting March 19

The Batavia Plain Dirt Gardeners will hold its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 19, at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.

It will begin with a social time at 6:45 p.m., followed by a business meeting and presentation at 7 p.m.

Confused about when and how to best prune the trees and shrubs in your yard? There is a method to it, and Richard Hentschel, former Illinois Extension educator, will help you understand and put those methods into practice.

Hentschel graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor’s degree in ornamental horticulture and a master’s degree in horticulture focusing on plant pathology and plant physiology.

He joined Extension as an educator in horticulture in Rock Island County, moving on to Kane County. From there, Hentschel managed a nonprofit trade association for pickled vegetables before returning to Extension. Hentschel served the northeast region of Illinois working with many green industry associations throughout Illinois prior to his last position as Horticulture Educator serving DuPage, Kane and Kendall counties, retiring after 35-plus years in May 2022.
