We need affordable drugs

Among Illinoisans surveyed in 2020, 54% worried about affording the cost of their prescription.

No person should have to decide between purchasing essential medications and affording rent, heat, or groceries.

If you have not yet struggled to afford a prescription, you will at some time in the future unless something is done. These high costs still impact you as they lead to high health insurance premiums for all of us. We need urgent action on this issue. That’s why I’m standing with many Illinoisans in support of establishing a Prescription Drug Affordability Board.

A Prescription Drug Affordability Board in Illinois would serve as a vital safeguard for consumers, health plans, and our state. This Board would review high-cost prescription drugs that pose an affordability challenge to Illinoisans and then regulate certain drugs with upper payment limits.

Illinois has a proud tradition of being a leader in addressing healthcare affordability. Creating a Prescription Drug Affordability Board would once again showcase our commitment to the well-being of the residents of our state. I urge our legislators to take decisive action in establishing this board. I hope others in our community will do the same.
