Consumers are not winning against inflation
Your Feb. 26 front page story “Consumers are fighting inflation — and winning” is a joke, right? Surely you jest.
We are not winning, because we now purchase store brands and trust me, all store brands are not created equal.
I am a former retired restaurant owner, and I do all of the shopping and cooking in my household. If you think, as cited in the article, that the store brand of cream cheese at $3.19 is the same as a 12 oz. tub of Kraft’s Philadelphia cream cheese at $6.69 I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
If you are in a daze as you walk the aisles of your local grocery store, all you have to do to wake up is take a look at a box of Cheerios now priced at $7 a box. Or how about a 5 pound bag of King Arthur flour that used to be $3.99, now $6.99 — and don’t get me started about eggs that may or not be there.
Winning? We consumers aren’t winning. We are doing our best to survive and keep our head above water.
Now, about that bridge I mentioned above.
