Endorsement: Foster in Dist. 11 Democratic primary

First elected to Congress in 2008, U.S. Rep. Bill Foster faces a Democratic primary challenge from Qasim Rashid, a human rights attorney.

Rashid has made criticism about his opponent’s corporate donors and a call for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza central planks of his campaign. Foster, though critical of the death toll and devastation in Gaza, supports “humanitarian pauses” and humanitarian aid instead, citing Israel’s right to defend itself following the deadly Hamas attacks on Oct. 7

Foster, meanwhile, points to a list of accomplishments in the House as well as bringing millions of dollars in projects back to his district. A scientist, business owner and longtime member of Congress, Foster has the knowledge, background and balance to approach the many difficult issues facing our nation. Plus, we believe, his moderate views are a better fit for his district.

We admire Rashid’s passion, but his attempts to distort Foster’s positions and his opponent’s reasons for leaving a heated forum early are disappointing. We need more straight talk in Washington, not less.

Foster is endorsed.
