Endorsement: Boxenbaum in Illinois House Dist. 83

In the Democratic primary race for Illinois House District 83, incumbent Matt Hanson of Montgomery faces a challenge from Arad Boxenbaum of Geneva.

Boxenbaum’s experience is as a member of the Geneva Library Board and as a campaign organizer for Mike Quigley, Pete Buttigieg and Joe Biden

Hanson is a former Kane County Board member and is completing his first term as 83rd District state representative.

Both candidates share similar stances on funding the states’ response to the migrant crisis, ethics and state budget issues.

In our endorsement interview, Boxenbaum gave specific answers to questions such as saying no to new taxes, and yes to supporting a movement to enshrine the right to an abortion into the Illinois Constitution. Hanson was less specific in his answers to these and other questions about issues facing state government.

Hanson also pleaded guilty in December of 2023 to driving under the influence, leading to questions about his judgment in a prominent leadership position.

Voters have a strong alternative in Boxenbaum, who could bring fresh ideas and energy to the state legislature. He is endorsed in this race.
