Des Plaines woman’s ID stolen for fake tax return, police say

A Des Plaines woman’s Social Security number was stolen and used to file a fraudulent income tax return, police said Monday.

The fake return was filed Feb. 15. The scam was discovered by the IRS, which subsequently wrote to the woman to alert her to the identity theft, police said.
