What Democrats have brought
A Democratic Congress gave Trump an insufficient $5 billion to partially build a wall on the southern border. The Democrats have given $50 billion to Ukraine to protect its border. That Ukraine money should have gone our border. How many migrants is Biden going to allow in, 20 million, 50 million, 100 million? When are you Democrat’s going to yell stop?
Welfare cost in 1935 was $0. In 1965 welfare cost $20 billion. That was the year that President Johnson and Sen. Kennedy led the drive to change welfare laws. The result was a welfare cost in 2023 of $1.2 trillion. The taxpayers are supporting 65 million on welfare, 9 million on Social Security disabilty and 32 million government workers. That’s a heavy load.
Let’s end abortions in the country. Democrats love to force people to do something, e.g., the COVID shots and shutdowns. Let’s force all women of child-bearing age to take birth control pills because that’s a decision they can’t seem to make. Abortion gone. No more killing babies.

Wise man is in place
Quote by John Adams, “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. I pray heaven to bestow the best of blessings on this house and all that shall hereafter inhabit it. May none but the wise men ever rule under this roof.”
We found it in Joe Biden. Let’s keep him.

Tax switch needed for mental health
Nearly 40% of individuals in McHenry County report feeling nervous, anxious or on-edge each month, which has doubled from 2020. As the executive director of NAMI McHenry County (National Alliance on Mental Illness), I know that the needs of our community are greater than ever before, and our mental health agencies are struggling to keep up with demand. Unfortunately, the dollars allocated to the McHenry County Mental Health Board have not kept up with this increased demand. In 2023, the Mental Health Board requested a $2.5 million increase in the budget, but was approved for only $525,000.
Because the county board knew a different solution was needed, and urgently, they voted overwhelmingly to put a referendum on the March primary ballot that would remove the mental health funding from the property tax and instead fund it through a 0.25% increase in the retail sales tax. Most food, medicine and medical equipment would be exempt. This extra 25 cents on a $100 purchase would help to meet the increased demand for mental health services in our county.
Please join NAMI and many other organizations in the county to support this bipartisan approach to mental health funding and vote “Yes” for mental health on the March 19 ballot.

Youth sports focus valuable, appreciated
Anyone who reads the Daily Herald sports section has noticed the growing emphasis you’ve placed on local high school sports. I’ll be honest, I’m more of a pro sports fan. Fortunately, there’s plenty of really good Daily Herald writers already committed to following our Chicago teams. But, truth be told, your high school sports coverage is really comprehensive and very unique. You can’t find it in any other Chicago papers.
My kids are all grown up, but I really enjoy the special interest articles you have that focus on both high school athletes and their coaches. High school sports provides our kids with wonderful opportunities to compete, grow, and build both athletic and life skills.
Your writers do a great job of capturing the spirit and value of high school sports. I, for one, appreciate the time and effort your team has put forth to capture this important part of sports competition.
Thank you.
