Nugent appointed to Streamwood Park District Board of Commissioners

The Streamwood Park District is pleased to announce Michelle Nugent as a commissioner on the Streamwood Park District Board of Commissioners. Nugent was appointed to the role at a special meeting of the board of commissioners on Tuesday, Feb. 20. She will be formally sworn in at the February board meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Hoosier Grove Barn, 700 W. Irving Park Road.

“I am honored and humbled to accept this responsibility and am excited to be joining the Streamwood Park District Board of Commissioners,” said Nugent. “The Streamwood Park District is already doing great things with their parks and facilities, as well as both youth and adult programs, to which I look forward to working hard to continue to help make our park district be the very best it can be.”

Nugent was selected from a group of three finalists from the community who each submitted applications and interviewed for the open board position.

Streamwood Park District board President Raees Yawer said the decision to choose from the three was challenging because they were all great candidates.

“We are very excited to welcome Michelle Nugent as commissioner and we are fortunate that she has the skills and experience that’ll make her a great addition to the board,” said Yawer.

Nugent brings more than 20 years of professional experience in education, financial services and community volunteerism to the district. She currently serves as den leader and COR/committee chair of Streamwood Cub Scout Pack 15. In her role as chair, she facilitates monthly committee meetings, delegates tasks to committee members and provides reports and general support for the program. She is a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.

“I feel the definition of a park district commissioner is someone who is a confident, caring, friendly, outgoing person who enjoys working with the public, enjoys getting involved and is creative at problem solving,” said Nugent.

She also prioritized working with the park district to make sure the parks, programs and activities reflect the wide range of diversity in the community.

Nugent fills the board vacancy left by former Commissioner Larry Piekarz who resigned last year. She will serve on the Streamwood Park District Board of Commissioners through the next election cycle in 2025.
