IDOT cleaning up roadways Saturday

Major litter removal operations will be taking place along the expressway system from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting.

Thirty maintenance crews will be removing debris, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Lane closures won’t be required but equipment and workers may be on the shoulders. Motorists are asked to remain alert, slow down and given them space to work.

The clean up is getting an early start due to the unseasonably warm weather.

“We’re increasing our efforts but we need the public’s help as well,” said Omer Osman, IDOT secretary.

A short video of the impacts of litter in Illinois is available on YouTube or on IDOT’s YouTube channel.
