Elgin Vintage to hold grand opening Saturday
Elgin Vintage, which operated as a pop up in downtown Elgin last summer, will hold a grand opening from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday for its permanent location in the same storefront at 23 S. Spring St.
The shop sells a carefully curated collection of vintage clothing and accessories with a goal of promoting sustainability and fighting fast fashion.
The store, which will be open Thursdays through Sundays, also will hold a ceremonial ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29.
Elgin Vintage owner David Hill, the son of Daily Herald photo editor Brian Hill, started the online venture as a senior in high school at St. Edward Central Catholic in 2019.
While home for the summer from Eureka College in 2022, the environmental studies major opened his first popup location in a storefront on Market Street behind the Jewel on Larkin.
The store stocks items such as band and concert T-shirts, college sweatshirts, colorful 80s sweaters, as well as jeans and pants. Some items are priced as low as $15, with most items coming in at around $25.
