New Wheeling fire chief is officially aboard

Wheeling’s newest fire chief has officially joined the department.

Scott A. Salela, formerly the division chief of support services with the Naperville Fire Department, was sworn in Tuesday.

He succeeds Mike McGreal, who retired Jan. 12.

Salela was among 37 candidates and four finalists for the post. He will collect a $180,000 base annual salary.
