COD police department offers free safety courses in March and April

Learn skills in crisis management and prevention through courses offered in March and April by the College of DuPage Police Department.

Courses are free and open to the public, and are held in the Berg Instructional Center (BIC) on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. Registration is required.

• “Crisis Intervention: What YOU Need to Know,” presented from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, in BIC 3419 will teach participants about actionable steps to help someone in a crisis in several different contexts, including in-person, virtual, at work or at home.

• “Situational Awareness,” presented from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 8, in BIC 3419 emphasizes strategies for developing an awareness of your surroundings. COD Police will discuss in-depth specific ways to prepare ourselves for the possibility of danger.

• “Making Prevention a Reality,” presented from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, March 15, in BIC 3419, offers participants tips to identify pre-incident behaviors, enhance situational awareness and more.

• “Save Your Stash: Fraud Prevention and Awareness,” presented from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, April 12, in BIC 3914, will explore various fraud schemes and ways to deal with fraud victimization.

• “Stop the Bleed,” presented from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, April 26, in BIC 3419, provides an overview of best practices in emergency situations where uncontrollable bleeding occurs.

“Arming yourself with information is a key step to successfully navigating a crisis,” said COD Police Chief Kent Munsterman. “The College of DuPage Police Department is proud to offer these resources, providing participants valuable information they can apply to many different situations.”
