15 Elgin-area arts groups awarded grants

Fifteen Elgin-area not-for-profit arts organizations have received grants to help produce programs, including adult and children’s theater, visual art and musical concerts.

The $64,443 in Elgin Cultural Arts Commission grants were awarded based on innovation, impact, opportunity and feasibility. The annual program is available to local arts-based groups that will produce their funded program within Elgin.

The city saw its highest number of applicants for the grants this year, which council member Carol Rauschenberger saw as a reflection of the city’s robust art community.

“I just want to comment about how lucky Elgin is to have the number of visual arts and performing arts organizations that we have,” she said. “Looking forward to going to many of them and seeing the performances.”

The city council approved the recommendations made by the Cultural Arts Commission during last week’s meeting.
