Lego heaven comes to Lake County

The Lake County Fairgrounds became Lego heaven this weekend as Brick Fest Live brought more than 1 million plastic construction toys for fans of all ages to enjoy.

The event featured life-size Lego creations, hands-on activities and a chance to take part in the creation of a Guinness World-Record mosaic, all at the fairgrounds’ event center in Grayslake.

“It’s really quite amazing,” Rich Heitz of Park Ridge said Sunday as his 6-year-old son, Max, checked out a pool filled with Lego pieces. “Max is enjoying his dip in the Lego pool.”

Samantha Disney, 6, of Lake Zurich was brave enough to walk barefoot across Lego pieces — an act that has led to many a parent screaming “Ow!” — as part of the Brick Walk challenge.

“It didn’t really feel that bad,” Samantha said.
