Libertyville’s Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, NSDAR, announces DAR Good Citizen Award
On Feb. 11, The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, announced its DAR Good Citizen student award winners at the chapter meeting held at Adler Memorial Park Lodge in Libertyville.
Created in 1934, the DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with their state boards of education. The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty and punctuality); service (which includes cooperation, courtesy and consideration of others); leadership (which includes personality, self-control and ability to assume responsibility); and patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation)
These students were selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrated these qualities throughout their four years in high school to an outstanding degree.
The Ansel Brainerd Cook DAR Good Citizen’s Award and Scholarship Contest Chairman, Lee Allen-Russell, works with the school counselors from each of the participating high schools in the Libertyville area to have them submit their “Good Citizen” to represent their school.
This year, five seniors were chosen by their respective High Schools. Tierney Krupka and Lauren Zomcheck from Carmel High School; Bridget Graham from Libertyville High School; Margaret O’Brien from Mundelein School and Claire Dornbusch from Vernon Hills High School. Each school’s DAR Good Citizen received a DAR Good Citizen pin, certificate, wallet recognition card and a monetary award.
The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter has announced Tierney Krupka from Carmel High School as its chapter winner and recipient of the DAR Good Citizens Award. Tierney was also the chapter’s scholarship winner and received a monetary award.
The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, NSDAR, is celebrating its 47th year. The chapter was organized in September 1977 in Libertyville by 17 members. The chapter has now grown to include more than 185 members. In 2023, the ABC chapter members logged in over 7000 volunteer hours in the towns in which they work and live.
