Keep pressure on for transparency on deal
The Daily Herald article 'Trying to 'make it happen' How Arlington Heights' is working to resolve tax dispute between Bears, schools' by Mr. Christopher Placek last December was an example of good reporting combined with a thorough background research. This article has confirmed the widely-held suspicion that it's business as usual at the Arlington Heights' Village Hall.
The development of Arlington Park is being decided behind closed doors between village staff, Bears' representatives and the schools in order to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). An MOU is the latest Village Staff gimmick to get projects rubber-stamped and approved by the village board. Please see the MOU with Urban Street Group LLC that has subverted the Inclusionary Housing Ordinance in an attempt to develop International Plaza.
Once an MOU has been decided in private between the village staff, Bears' representatives and the schools, the village board will then approve of it despite any far-too-late public input. Clearly, our local democracy and transparency depends upon the Daily Herald doing more of this type of investigative journalism. This is to report on issues that the village staff and the village Board would much rather keep behind closed doors.
