St. Charles and IMUA offering scholarships

The city of St. Charles, in partnership with the Illinois Municipal Utilities Association, is offering four $1,000 scholarships to eligible high school students.

To qualify, applicants must be high school seniors whose parents or legal guardians are residential customers of City of St. Charles utilities.

Eligible students must submit an application and essay of 500 words or less addressing one of four utility-related questions. Applications and essays are due March 8, 2024.

Other eligible communities in the Chicago suburbs include: Batavia, Geneva, Naperville, St. Charles, and Winnetka.

The application, list of essay questions, and eligibility requirements can be downloaded at www.imea.org.

The scholarship program seeks to promote and recognize scholastic achievement, as well as create greater awareness among young adults of the many issues facing consumers and public power municipalities.

Since inception, the program has awarded $64,000 to 100 students from IMUA member communities statewide.

The 2023 winners include: Ryan Lee, Naperville; Chase Heyen, Springfield; Hannah Wojcik, St. Charles; and Sydney Klemish, Breese.
