Grayslake Middle School repairs to continue until late April
Emergency repairs needed at Grayslake Middle School are now expected to last until April 26, according to a letter posted on the school district’s website on Wednesday.
On Jan. 18, damage caused by severe winter weather conditions forced Grayslake Middle School students and faculty into makeshift classrooms at the University Center of Lake County campus. Frederick School students and faculty were also affected and had their classes moved.
The shift was expected to last from four to six weeks, while repairs were underway. School officials now say the full scope of repair work will include fixing unit ventilators, replacing all fire sprinklers, replacing the gym floor, and a complete cleanup of all classrooms and offices affected, requiring an additional 12 weeks to complete.
Superintendent Lynn Glickman said vendors are committed to completing the work ahead of schedule, if possible.
The school district is working with the University Center to identify any dates already booked by other parties and to problem-solve to ensure student learning. Last week, students visited the Lake County Tech Campus and College of Lake County over two days due to scheduled reservations of the center.
The University Center will be a polling place on March 19, and the district is currently working on finding another venue for schooling that day.
