Huntley church hosts ‘Fill the Cart from the Heart’ food drive on Feb. 24

Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, 10805 Main St. in Huntley, will hold a community food drive — “Fill the Cart from the Heart” — to benefit Grafton Food Pantry on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We are pleased to continue being a local source to help provide solutions for the pressing needs in our own community and appreciate the strong support we have received in the past,” said Tara Mackey, the church’s community outreach coordinator. “Volunteers will be on hand in the parking lot to provide assistance with the food collection.”

According to Harriet Ford on the Grafton Food Pantry board, the items most in need at this time include cleaning supplies; toilet paper; tissues; paper towels; deodorant; detergent; peanut butter; pasta sauce; broth; dried soups; and tuna.

Cash or check donations are welcome to extend the reach and help others.

With every $1 donation, the Grafton Food Pantry is able to purchase an equivalent of $8 for food to help those in need.

Checks should be made payable to Grafton Food Pantry. Checks written to Shepherd of the Prairie will be given to Grafton Food Pantry.

The Grafton Food Pantry in Huntley serves individuals in need from Huntley, as well as portions of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, and Crystal Lake.
