Creative minds wanted for Maker Faire Lake County

Thinkers and tinkerers are invited to show off their talents at the fourth annual Maker Faire Lake County on Saturday, April 13 at College of Lake County’s Grayslake Campus.

To apply to be a maker, register for free at lakecounty.makerfaire.com/call-for-makers-2024.

Maker Faire celebrates the multifaceted fields of making for everyone in Lake County, from engineers to scientists to crafters. The event also showcases CLC’s home for makers, the Baxter Innovation Lab, which opened in 2018. The event is free and open to the public and is a popular event with more than 800 people attending last year.

Innovations can be hobbies, experiments or projects, ranging from human-powered machines and drones to wearables and e-textiles. Participants can showcase items from their organizations, after-school programs, clubs, scout groups or start ups. The attendees will see technology such as 3D printing, computerized numerical control programming, and laser cutting. Attendees can become makers too with projects including interactive art and technology, kites, puppets, robotics, rockets or sustainability.

The final for the Lake County Robotics season, for students in grades 7-12, will also take place at Maker Faire Lake County. For more information visit clcillinois.edu/events/lcrc, and to register, email Rob Twardock at rtwardock@clcillinois.edu.

Maker Faire applications will be accepted until March 15. For more information, including how to answer the Call for Makers, visit lakecounty.makerfaire.com or email clc.makerfaire@clcillinois.edu.

On the same day, CLC is hosting open houses at all three campuses and the Advanced Technology Center and the opening of the student-run Prairie Restaurant at Brae Loch.
