Skyview: Snow-covered bridge is gateway to outdoor winter activities

Though it has been relatively warm this winter and ice has been in short supply, there have been periods of snow and cold, and that hasn't stopped people from engaging in outdoor recreational activities.

On a recent brisk day, the winding trails at the Lake County Forest Preserve’s Independence Grove near Libertyville gave people a chance to enjoy the outdoors.

Viewed from above, one of those hearty souls crossed a bridge that was accented by a recent snowfall. The water is just clear enough for rocks in the shallow areas to be seen, and snow covers the surrounding banks.

Independence Grove is one of dozens of preserves in Lake County that offer a respite from the hustle and bustle of the suburbs, regardless of weather conditions.
