Indiana man charged in smash-and-grab armed robbery of Arlington Heights jewelry store

A 40-year-old Indiana man was charged with armed robbery Thursday in connection with last year’s smash-and-grab robbery of an Arlington Heights jewelry store.

Michael G. Nichols was charged with one count of armed robbery in Cook County.

Nichols was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into a robbery that happened in January 2023 when armed, masked offenders entered Persin & Robbin Jewelers, smashed cases and stole multiple high-end items.

Cornell E. Martinez, 27, arrested in November, is also facing charges for the robbery.

The investigation into others involved in the robbery continues, authorities said.

Nichols’ next hearing is scheduled for March 1 in Rolling Meadows.
