White Sox announce spring training invites

With pitchers and catchers reporting to camp Wednesday in Glendale, Ariz., the White Sox announced they've agreed to minor-league contracts with 12 free agents. They've all received non-roster invites to spring training. The Sox signed pitchers Jesse Chavez, Justin Anderson, Joe Barlow, Jake Cousins, Chad Kuhl and Jake Woodford, catcher Chuckie Robinson, infielder Danny Mendick and outfielders Rafael Ortega, Mark Payton, Brett Phillips and Kevin Pillar. The 40-year-old Chavez has played for nine teams over 16 major-league seasons. Last year, the right-hander was 1-0 with a 1.56 ERA in 36 relief appearances with the Braves. Mendick was a utility infielder with the White Sox from 2019-22. The Sox also invited 14 prospects to camp, headed by shortstop Colson Montgomery and catcher Edgar Quero.
