Project Backpack served 1,680 students in need during 2023

Elgin Community College and its partners served 1,680 students in 2023 through Project Backpack, a community-based initiative to benefit area students in need from Elgin Area School District U-46, Algonquin-based Community Unit District 300, Central Unit District 301, St. Charles Unit District 303, Keeneyville Elementary District 20, and ECC District 509.

The initiative provided backpacks, school supplies, and agency resource flyers.

The success of the 2023 Project Backpack initiative was accomplished by committee members, volunteers, donors, sponsors, and agencies. The Project Backpack committee extends a special acknowledgment to the following 2023 sponsors and partners:

• Bronze Sponsors: Susan Cooper, Thomas and Linda Youngren, Bernadette and Ronald Freres, and Wendy Breitmayer

• Silver level sponsors: Comcast

• Gold level sponsors: KCT Credit Union, ECC Faculty Association, Deanna Oliver, Walmart Foundation, and Jongpil Kim

• Event Partners: ECC, ECC Faculty Association, ECCP3, Healthcare Plus Elgin, Kane County Regional Office of Education, Kane County Teachers Credit Union, School District U-46.

Project Backpack will return in person this year. The event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 3, in Building J on ECC’s Spartan Drive campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
