Suburban Sprawl: The best sports social media posts over the weekend

For starters, check out this defense from Rolling Meadows grad Max Christie against the Knicks’ Donte DiVincenzo from Saturday.

Meanwhile, younger brother Cam Christie hit some big shots Saturday while helping lead Minnesota past Northwestern. Cam is coming off his best two-game stretch of the season with 15 points against NU and 17 vs. Penn State.

Fond farewell

Here’s the link to a tribute video for Fremd boys basketball coach Bob Widlowski, who is stepping down after 23 years.

High school milestone

This one speaks for itself...

Weekend excursions

It was a good weekend for Power 4 visits, including Geneva WR Talyn Taylor checking out Georgia.

Palatine DL Jaylen Williams took a trip to Purdue.

West Aurora two-sport star Terrence Smith visited Iowa football.

Hersey ‘25 tight end Logan Farrell is already committed to North Carolina and made it down to Chapel Hill.

College commits

Oswego Class of ‘25 linebacker Carson Cooney committed to Iowa, a school with a strong recent history at the position.

York defensive lineman Jack Trautmann accepted a preferred walk-on offer from Northwestern...

West Aurora’s Sean Weigand will take his long-snapping talents to DeKalb.

Barrington running back Dillon Fitzpatrick commits to Dayton...

St. Francis lineman Dan Theiss to Valparaiso.

Metea Valley cornerback Lucas Van Vlerah to Bowdoin.

Crystal Lake South defensive lineman Andy Burburija is headed to Iowa Western, the reigning JUCO national champ.

Here’s a basketball commit: Bolingbrook’s Josh Aniceto to Augustana...

And baseball: Montini’s Drew Church to Eastern Illinois...

Hail to the champs

Wrestling regionals took place over the weekend and this feat stands out: Naperville Central qualified all 14 wrestlers for sectionals for the first time in school history.

Nice work by the Downers Grove South graphics department, memorializing conference titles in both girls basketball and boys swimming/diving.

Loyola won the GCAC tournament, beating Montini in the title game.

Marengo girls hoops repeat as Kishwaukee River champs.

Feel the BOOM

Midwest BOOM, based in Naperville, had its first full 7-on-7 weekend in Houston and brought home a trophy.

Vintage gym tour

This one caught my eye over the weekend. DeKalb played a basketball game on the west side of the state in Sterling. In the first photo, it’s clearly an epic old gym, but check the ceiling — a four-sided videoboard? Well done, Sterling.

Final word

Congrats to Daily Herald correspondentHoward Schlossberg for joining the Wheeling Athletic Hall of Fame...
