Celebrate changes at Fremont Public Library during Feb. 18 open house

The Fremont Public Library staff will show off the facility’s recent changes − and its new director − during an upcoming open house.

The gathering is scheduled to run from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 18, at the library, 1170 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein.

An expansion of public space on the second floor, a new teen space and more study areas are just a few of the changes the library has experienced over the past year, according to a news release. The work cost about $1.8 million, officials said.

The open house will feature an all-ages, library-wide scavenger hunt. Behind-the-scenes tours, live music and craft activities are planned, too.

The recent changes at Fremont weren’t just architectural. The library welcomed a new director, Laura Long, in November.

Long was hired to succeed Scott Davis following a national search. Davis retired last year after about 20 years in the role.

The open house is free to attend and open to the public.
