Hoffman Estates hosts Black History Month celebration Feb. 24

The Hoffman Estates Cultural Awareness Commission will host a special celebration honoring Black History Month at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at village hall, 1900 Hassell Road.

Herb Porter, a Hanover Park village trustee with a remarkable journey from Chicago's South Side to suburban tranquility, will be the keynote speaker at the event. Porter is also an actor and stage performer, appearing on television screens on shows like “Chicago Code,” “ER,” and “Chicago Med” and in films including “The Calling” and “Dog Jack.”

The celebration will also feature entertainment provided by the Funkbrotherz and the Hoffman Estates Majorettes. Light refreshments will be served.

The event is free, but reservations are required. To register, call Hallie Karle at (847) 781-2606 or fill out the form on the village's website, www.hoffmanestates.org.
