Wheeling firefighters extricate driver following Saturday crash

Wheeling first responders worked for more than an hour to free a motorist following a single-vehicle crash early Saturday at the intersection of Northgate Parkway and Allendale Drive.

Two people were taken to hospitals. The crash took place about 12:47 a.m., according to Battalion Chief Mark Menzel of the Wheeling Fire Department.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage after striking a tree, Menzel said.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found one person outside of the vehicle and the driver trapped inside. It took 62 minutes to free the driver, Menzel said.

The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Department, Prospect Heights Fire Department, Wheeling Police Department and Gene’s Towing assisted the Wheeling Fire Department.
