City council’s misplaced priorities

Report: “Mayor Johnson casts the tie-breaking vote as the Chicago City Council narrowly passed a resolution calling for a permanent cease-fire in Gaza Wednesday, bringing a monthslong battle over the symbolic declaration to an end.”

Why is the Chicago City Council wasting time on an issue that has nothing to do with them and they have absolutely no control over? Apparently, this debate has been going on in the City Council for a month. What was accomplished other than causing animosity and division among council members?

I would think that they might have more pressing matters to address - like migrants, daily violence, poverty, education, neighborhoods, jobs and unemployment. Or, how about passing a resolution calling for a permanent cease-fire on the daily shootings and murders in Chicago.
