ECC’s Black History Month explores ‘African Americans and the Arts’
Elgin Community College is celebrating Black History Month with the 2024 theme of “African Americans and the Arts.”
Join ECC this year in honoring Black History Month with peer and employee networking and critical conversations through formal discussions, creative outlets, and community gatherings.
“I am excited to recognize the diverse and indelible contributions of African American art and culture during this year’s Black History Month celebration,” said Erik Enders, student life coordinator for student equity. “This is an important opportunity for our entire campus community to learn, remember, and appreciate how Black culture has helped shape American culture.”
2024 Black History Month events:
• Black Student Connection from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, in Building B, Jobe Lounge
Celebrate Black History Month by networking with peers, ECC faculty, and staff. Registration is required at tinyurl.com/ConnectionSP24.
• Expressive Arts of Color from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in Building B, Jobe Lounge
Join ECC’s Art and Design club for a painting experience and celebrate African Americans and the arts.
• Black Magic Poetry Slam 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in Spartan Auditorium, Building G
Celebrate Black excellence through the art of spoken word and poetry.
• MAGIC: Black Lives Matter Series Part 14 “African America History IS History: Black Influences in Art & Culture” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in Building B, Room B180
Join in celebrating the profound impact of African American history on the fabric of America, exploring the rich tapestry of Black influences in art and culture.
• African Ball from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, in Jobe Lounge, Building B
Celebrate the culmination of Black History Month with traditional cuisine, dance, and song.
