Don’t overlook importance of down-ticket races
I fully agree with the Daily Herald’s recent commentary regarding the uselessness of this year’s presidential primaries. The whole system needs some sort of shake-up in that too many candidates drop out after the first few states which are primarily white middle class. Hardly a representative cross section of the people of this country.
Aside from the presidential primary, let’s remember that there are plenty of down-ticket elections that require our attention. It’s these down-ticket elections that actually touch our lives more than the president ever will.
People complain that there’s “no one to vote for” at the general election. One way around that is to vote in the primary. The candidates you see on the general election ballot are determined by the minuscule percentage of voters who participate in the primary elections.
My compliments to the Vernon library system for bringing in a political scientist to help their customers know more about elections and hopefully engage more people in the process.
For the purpose of this message, I don’t care who you vote for. JUST VOTE.
