Bartlett man charged with threatening officers with shovel stolen from police station

A Bartlett man was charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor theft Tuesday after being accused of threatening police officers with a snow shovel allegedly stolen from the police station.

Bartlett police say Colin DeVitt, 23, entered the lobby of the police station at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and took a snow shovel that belonged to the village.

Officers later found DeVitt with the stolen shovel at his residence, police said. As officers investigated, DeVitt used the shovel to threaten them, leading to his arrest, police alleged.

DeVitt was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Feb. 2 at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
