DAR donates pollinator seed packets to Barrington Area Library
When the Barrington Area Library opens its Seed Library on February 1, 2024, residents will find hundreds of pollinator seed packets thanks to a donation from the Signal Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR chapter donated seeds for over a dozen varieties of native plants, including cardinal flower and wild blue indigo plants. These native seeds will be available along with many other seed varieties for flowers, vegetables, herbs, and more.
Adult Services Librarian Liz Kirchhoff expressed the library’s gratitude for the donation noting that the native seeds are in high demand in the community.
Signal Hill Chapter Conservation Chair Jennifer Lucas believes this seed donation is important because it allows people across the community to beautify their yards and provides vital habitat for native wildlife, birds, and insects. “Like placing steppingstones across a river, dispersing these important plants in small gardens across the area provides a connection for pollinators to the bigger habitats in nature preserves,” Jennifer observes.
The Signal Hill Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was founded in Barrington, IL in 1972. NSDAR is a volunteer women’s service organization headquartered in Washington, DC.
Due to its fund-raising efforts, the Chapter contributes to 501 (c) (3) organizations specifically in the areas of historic preservation, education, patriotism, conservation and Native American issues.
Since its founding in 1890, over one million women have joined NSDAR both nationally and around the world. Membership in NSDAR is open to any woman aged 18 and over who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolution. For more information: https://signalhilldar.com.
