Des Plaines woman accused of stealing more than $84,000 from employer

A Des Plaines woman is accused of stealing more than $84,000 from a local business where she formerly worked, police said Monday.

Aprill Perez, 47, of the 9300 block of Landings Lane, was arrested Friday and charged with felony theft.

The thefts occurred at Designer Direct, 1455 E. Golf Road, between August 2020 and April 2021, police said in a news release. Sixty-two unauthorized transactions to accounts registered to Perez and a relative were discovered during a financial audit, police said.

Perez had permission to make payments for cleaning services, according to police.

The case took time to solve because financial records needed to be subpoenaed and reviewed, police said.

Perez was arrested after going to the police station to speak with detectives, according to the release. Police said she confessed to making the transfers.

Perez was released after being processed, police said.
