TheBatavia Plain Dirt Gardeners will host a presentation on “New Invaders Watch: Spotted Lanternfly, Illinois Most Unwanted Invasive Species” on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
It will begin with social time at 6:45 p.m. with the business meeting and presentation at 7 p.m. at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.
Learn how to identify, report, and possibly manage this new invasive pest.
Join Tricia Bethke for a lively discussion on protecting our trees and plants from this “pesky” pest and potentially others.
Bethke is the Illinois Forest Pest Outreach Coordinator. Her position is funded through a cooperative grant with U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and The Morton Arboretum.
Her responsibilities include training key stakeholders statewide on the U.S.D.A. APHIS Hungry Pests program, forest pest identification, high-risk pathways, regulations and quarantines, and reporting protocols.
Bethke also coordinates and instructs audiences on tree identification, forest pest detection, and tree health monitoring.
