Blackhawks set franchise record with 20th straight road loss

The Blackhawks fell 1-0 at Calgary on Saturday, which set a franchise record for most consecutive road losses at 20.

The previous record of 19 was set in 2003-04 by a team that finished 20-43-11.

The last time the Hawks won on the road was November 9 in a 5-3 victory over Tampa Bay. The Hawks (14-34-2 overall, 4-23-1 on the road) have been shut out in four of the last six games and haven't scored in 139 minutes, 21 seconds — almost seven full periods.

Elias Lindholm scored on the power play at 15:55 of the second period for the Flames' lone goal.

Philipp Kurashev and Jason Dickinson both rifled last-second shots that nearly tied things up, but Calgary goalie Jakob Markstrom staved off both attempts.

The Hawks had plenty of other chances, but Boris Katchouk failed twice on breakaways, and Kurashev also couldn't convert when he got behind the defense after snaring a stretch pass by Nick Foligno.

Isaak Phillips created his own opportunity late in the second period with an impressive end-to-end rush, but his backhand shot was absorbed by Markstrom.

Petr Mrazek made 29 saves for the Hawks.

The Hawks are off until Feb. 7 when they begin a five-game homestand against Minnesota.

Asked beforehand if the break comes at a good time, coach Luke Richardson told reporters: “Yeah, I think so. Guys are lugging a lot of hard minutes (and) playing really hard against teams like Edmonton (and) Vancouver — the top two teams in the league right now probably. …

“It's gonna be a good boost physically for those guys to kind of rejuvenate. There are some guys that are playing banged up.”
