Pedestrian killed by vehicle while trying to cross York Street in Elmhurst

A 74-year-old Elmhurst woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle while trying to cross York Street early Friday morning.

City officials said the woman was crossing York Street from the east near the Shell gas station just after 6:30 a.m. and was struck by a northbound Toyota minivan driven by a 73-year-old man near the Diversey Avenue intersection.

Authorities said the woman was not in a crosswalk.

The woman was transported to Endeavor Health Elmhusrt Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was uninjured.

York Street was closed until about 10:30 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation, but weather conditions are considered to be a contributing factor.
