How totalitarianism gets its start
Recently, the Daily Herald headline was "Trump makes a final pitch in Iowa; Tells Republicans their votes can bring retribution to his enemies" - Retribution, if that doesn't make the hair on the back of your neck stand up! A few days later, the news was U.S. Capitol Police are investigating comments allegedly made by pro-Trump political operative Roger Stone in the weeks before the 2020 election in which he appears to discuss assassinating two well-known House Democrats.
What is it going to take for Trump supporters to understand this is the lead-up to dictatorship, the end of our democracy? The sad part is I think that many of them would actually support it, some in Iowa interviews actually expressed their concern Trump could only serve four years. The sadder part is they don't understand how badly it would eventually turn out for them, the common folks, under a Trump dictatorship.
Same for the kowtowing Republicans in Washington. As the son of immigrant parents who escaped from communist East Germany, I'm afraid that moist Americans don't really understand and appreciate our freedom and are on a path to totalitarianism - this is exactly how Mussolini and Hitler started!
