Safe&Aware hosts self-defense class Feb. 3 to raise funds for domestic violence survivors
Safe&Aware, a domestic violence agency, recently launched a new initiative aimed at empowering women and youth in the community.
To raise funds for local domestic violence survivors, Safe&Aware is hosting a self-defense class which will equip participants with essential self-defense skills and promote personal safety.
The self-defense class will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at JP Wood Martial Arts, 249 E. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.
The event aims to create a safe and supportive environment where attendees can learn practical self-defense techniques from experienced instructors. The class is open to women and youth of all ages and fitness levels.
In addition to teaching participants how to defend themselves, the class will raise awareness about the emotional distress survivors often experience and how participants can be more proactive and empathetic when supporting domestic violence survivors.
The proceeds from this self-defense class will benefit local domestic violence survivors, enabling Safe&Aware to continue providing vital support services, such as counseling, legal assistance, supplies, and educational programs, that help domestic violence survivors break free from abusive relationships and start anew.
