St. Charles North grad setting up a great season at Elon
This Phoenix setter rose to the occasion in her first college campaign...
Jessica Parker (St. Charles North), a freshman setter for the women’s volleyball team at Elon University in North Carolina, was named to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Rookie Team this season.
The 5-foot-11 Parker recorded 600 assists, 165 digs and delivered 38 service aces for the Phoenix. She achieved season-highs of 36 assists in a match against Delaware and 15 digs in a match against Northeastern, Mass..
The first setter to reach 1,000 assists at St. Charles North, Parker holds the North Stars’ program record with 1,637 assists.
Back in December, North Central College senior Bradley Rosen (Downers Grove South) was named both College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin (CCIW) student-athlete of the week and d3wrestle.com wrestler of the week for his work at the 59th North Central Invitational.
At the time ranked No. 14 in Division III at 141 pounds by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, Rosen earned those weekly honors by winning his weight class, including beating the wrestler then ranked 10th in the country.
Entering the Cardinals’ Jan. 26-27 meet at Wheaton College’s Pete Willson Invitational, Rosen (14-4) was ranked No. 10 at 141 pounds by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Through Jan. 18 he’d helped North Central to 47 consecutive CCIW victories.
The athletic teams at St. Michael’s College in Vermont are called the Purple Knights, which is appropriate where hockey player Maddie Quinn (Loyola Academy) is concerned. Bruises turn purple.
A freshman defender, Quinn on Jan. 9 was named rookie of the week in the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance after she scored a goal and blocked 20 shots in a five-game span. She blocked 7 shots in a loss to Rochester Institute of Technology on Dec. 30.
On the season Quinn has scored 2 goals and has blocked a team-high 55 shots.
This one’s a little out of the norm...
Connor Koy (New Trier), a DePaul University sophomore majoring in honors accounting and minoring in data science, won $10,000 when he banked in a halfcourt shot at halftime of the Blue Demons’ Jan. 9 men’s basketball game against Creighton at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
A solid 110- and 300-meter hurdler for the Trevians in high school, Koy told DePaul personnel he’d save most of the money and use the rest to attend an NFL football game or March Madness basketball game.
