Fire leaves Wheeling home uninhabitable

No injuries were reported after fire broke out Sunday night at a Wheeling home, authorities said Monday.

Wheeling and Prospect Heights Fire crews were dispatched at about 8:19 p.m. after a resident called 911 to report a fire in a second-floor bedroom in the 700 block of Eastchester Road, officials said.

Crews began dousing the fire with water at about 8:28 p.m. and the fire was confirmed extinguished at 8:49 p.m., according to the Wheeling Fire Department. A cat was found unharmed by firefighters who battled the blaze.

The home was left uninhabitable due to smoke, fire and water damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
