Beyond the Byline: Northwestern journalism resident Rosie Newmark continues coverage for the suburbs

Daily Herald resident intern and Northwestern senior Rosie Newmark has spent much of her college experience covering Chicago, Evanston and the broader suburban community for campus and local publications.

As a Chicago native who grew up in Wrigleyville, Newmark has always felt passionate about learning and telling the city’s stories. She expanded her knowledge of local issues as a freelance writer for the Hyde Park Herald, immersing herself in an unfamiliar neighborhood. She furthered her ability to report and learn about new territory as an intern this past summer with The Record North Shore, where she covered New Trier Township and Highland Park.

These experiences, along with writing and editing for campus publications, have fueled her dedication to providing accurate and informative community-based news in the Chicago area.

She knew the Daily Herald was the right place for her journalism residency, a Northwestern program where journalism majors are placed with media and marketing sites for a quarter-long journalism experience, because of its commitment to providing engaging, hyperlocal news.

In her free time, Newmark enjoys listening to music and attending concerts, spending time outdoors and reading.

She is excited to explore a new coverage area in the northern and western suburbs and deepen her understanding of life in the greater Chicago area.
