Barrington Hills crash with injuries closes part of Algonquin Road for several hours Saturday

A member of the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District sustained serious injuries and others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Saturday.

The driver of the Fire Protection District vehicle, its sole occupant, was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Barrington Hills police said.

The occupants of the second vehicle, a Honda CRV, were taken to Ascension St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates also with non-life-threatening injuries. They were later released, police said.

Barrington Hills police responded at about 8:45 a.m. Jan. 20 to a crash with injuries on Algonquin Road east of Old Sutton Road, officials said.

A preliminary investigation by Barrington Hills police indicated that the Honda was heading east on Algonquin Road. It crossed the center line and crashed into the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District Ford Expedition that was traveling west on Algonquin Road toward an emergency. The Expedition had its siren and emergency lights on at the time.

As ambulances from Carpentersville and East Dundee responded to the scene, the Barrington Hills Police Department and several neighboring departments combined on traffic control at the scene.

Algonquin Road between Old Sutton Road and Dundee Road was closed until about 2 p.m. Saturday, police said.
