Democratic congressional candidates for two largely suburban districts will gather at a public forum Wednesday in Naperville.

The event, hosted by the Democratic Party of DuPage County and other local Democratic groups, is set for 6 p.m. at the Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave.

In the Democratic primary for the 6th District seat, U.S. Rep. Sean Casten of Downers Grove is being challenged by Mahnoor Ahmad of Oakbrook Terrace and Chicagoan Charles Hughes.

Republican Niki Conforti of Glen Ellyn is running unopposed for the Republican Party nomination.

The 6th District includes parts of Cook and DuPage counties.

In the Democratic primary for the 11th District post, U.S. Rep. Bill Foster of Naperville is being challenged by Qasim Rashid, also of Naperville.

Rashid’s campaign said he intends to attend the forum; Foster has schedule conflicts that could prevent him from attending, a campaign representative said.

On the other side of the political aisle, the Republican primary contest features Susan Hathaway-Altman of Geneva, Jerry Evans of Warrenville and Kent Mercado of Bartlett.

The 11th District encompasses portions of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, Will, DeKalb and Boone counties.

Illinois’ primary election is March 19.

Questions for the candidates can be submitted by 7 p.m. Tuesday to winfielddems@gmail.com.
