Former Elmhurst city engineer appointed assistant city manager

The Elmhurst City Council on Jan. 16 appointed Kent Johnson as its new assistant city manager. He will succeed retiring Assistant City Manager Mike Kopp.

Johnson has been an engineer for the city of Elmhurst since 2014 and began in government there in 2008 as a civil engineer. His role within Elmhurst’s Public Works department includes overseeing 14 stormwater mitigation projects since 2015 as well as numerous capital improvement projects and residential and commercial developments.

Johnson holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of North Dakota and advanced certificates in public management and leadership development.
