The circus of congressional hearings
Hunter Biden leaves a House Oversight Committee markup on Wednesday, Jan. 10, as they consider a resolution to hold him in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena last month. President Biden’s son defied a congressional subpoena for a closed-door deposition as part of the House impeachment inquiry. As part of the two-tier justice system in America, using his “white privilege” of being a member of the Biden family, Hunter Biden was able to shun the law as neither you nor I could do.
Instead of doing what’s proper in a deposition of a one-on-one question/answer, Hunter Biden went public in asking for a public deposition. This is comparable to a “circus” where each congressperson is allowed five minutes of questioning and the committee alternates with a Democrat having five minutes, followed by a Republican having five minutes. The process is repeated Democrat to Republican to Democrat with each congressperson asking his/her questions or no questions with their time allotted for “soapbox” antics of foolish, outrageous or amusing behavior like clowns.
Remember the Jan. 6 congressional committee by the Democrats that was an ABC production chaired by Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, who took the extraordinary step of sending subpoenas to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and four other Republican lawmakers. Again, with public congressional committee meetings, there is always potential for “send in the clowns.”
