Buffalo Grove High School hosts Jan. 20 Jazz Workshop

The Buffalo Grove High School Band Department presents the second annual Chicagoland Jazz Workshop on Saturday, Jan. 20. The workshop brings together area high schools, renowned artists and inspiring clinicians to provide an educational and listening experience for students, music educators and audience members alike.

The event starts at 8:15 a.m., with jazz ensemble performances throughout the day from eight suburban schools. This dynamic day of music concludes with a special 6 p.m. performance by the 2024 guest artist, the Chris Madsen Quartet.

A Chicago-based saxophonist and composer, Madsen earned degrees in jazz studies from DePaul University, the Juilliard School and the University of Illinois. He has performed and recorded with such names as Paul Simon, Bobby Short and Wynton Marsalis.

Purchase of admission wristband, with in/out privileges, gives attendees the opportunity to hear jazz ensembles from some of the finest school music programs in Illinois (8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.), plus the special performance by the Chris Madsen Quartet.

Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors. Concessions will be available for purchase.

Tickets at my.cheddarup.com/c/2023-jazz-workshop or at the door.

Visitors should enter at the school’s theater entrance (Door 6).

Come enjoy a Saturday of jazz,
