Maine South High School had three student projects receive national nominations by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) at this year’s National Student Production Awards (NSPA) competition.

The nominated projects are:

  • 12th grader Nicole Scimeca for Writer, “Wordle: The Musical”

“Congratulations to Nicole and Angie, whose videos received NSPA nominations,” says Mason Strom, Maine South Radio/TV Broadcasting teacher. “This is a huge deal and they should be proud of their work! I know I am. It is surely speaking for itself.”

Founded in 1955, NATAS is, “dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry,” according to the organization.

NATAS is best known for presenting recognition for excellence in television as a part of the EMMY Awards in the categories of News, Sports, Daytime, Public Service and Technology.

This year’s submissions were screened from approximately 2,000 entries from the regional chapters of NATAS. Entries were judged by selected industry professionals and media academics.

Recipients will be announced Feb. 1, 2024 at noon via a web stream produced by NATAS. This and all NATAS ceremonies are available on NATAS’ dedicated viewing platform powered by Vimeo, available on the web at watch.theemmys.tv and via The Emmys® apps (full list at watch.theemmys.tv/?show_devices=true).
